So waaaaay back in February (can you tell we’ve been really negligent with our blog…??!) our song “Open Wide” aired on Degrassi. It was a pretty cool placement considering this was a show established in our youth, we wrote the song, and we landed the placement without a publishing company.
We made the connections through a music placement workshop put on by Alberta Music. If you’re a musician and haven’t joined Alberta Music yet, we totally recommend you do (www.albertamusic.org). Their workshops are really informative and a great way to connect with the music community and industry people.
Here’s a clip of our placement…
Last year we played the TransCanada Alberta Music Series at the Epcor Center in Calgary. CKUA has posted a recording of this session featuring performances by the country duo – PEAR and us! Check it out:
You may have heard of this lil ol American company that’s taken over our beloved Zellers… I use beloved quite loosely (although it was the only place I could purchase brown colored makeup when I was a kid… but that’s another story).
Anyways, Target is running a lovely lil ad campaign across North American and my musical buddy IS THE VOICE YOU HEAR. Seriously. Jocelyn is the voice of the TARGET commercial. She revamped an old school tune called “So Groovy”.
I’m not telling her I’m writing this blog because she’s kinda shy about it all.
Everyone is wondering… how did she land that? Here’s her secret…
Her world is filled with a lot of hard work, perseverance and magic. I‘m pretty proud of her.

Hope your day is filled with wonder and delight.
I have always said that if I have to be in “business”, I want to be surrounded with people that I would actually call my friends. Lisa and I are so privileged to already have beautiful t-shirts made by our friends Connor and Leslie at CAMP and now we are so excited to add another familiar face to the team. Caitlin Bodewitz is not only family to us, but I’m also completely obsessed with her work (hence why I chose her artwork to be inked on my body). Now you can purchase her famous records in jocelyn & lisa style. Get them this Saturday for LIVE at Ironwood 9pm for the release of our latest online single Bound To You.

Okay, well maybe not plural. Singular. Magazine. One magazine. But it’s our first magazine feature and it was pretty exciting! Avenue Calgary chose us for their June issue. We chose to do the photo/video shoot at one of our favorite venues/coffee shops in Calgary – Cornerstone Music Cafe (which offers music lessons, gluten-free food and live music… pretty much the perfect place).
It took me forever to finally get a copy of the magazine in my hands and when I did, I stole all the copies from the store… And I didn’t care. If anyone asked, I’d point to the photo and they’d understand why. And maybe think I was a star or something. Ha.

Since the flood, I’ve taken more time to really look into the eyes of the people sharing my city. I’ve seen great pain and fear and worry, but much much more than that I’ve seen hope. In my experience of my life, I have always believed that sorrow and joy coincide, and is this city ever filled with both right now.
It’s odd. Driving through one of your favourite areas of the city that created you and seeing human sized piles of furniture and carpet and debris lining the streets for blocks is sure to make your stomach sick. But I looked closer. I looked at the people, probably homeless, definitely covered in mud and somehow still smiling and full of gratitude. The water has reminded me of so much that I had forgotten.
So thank you to all of you for opening your hearts and your wallets and your homes and your arms. Thank you for offering me a place to sleep and a dish to eat. But most of all, thank you for showing up. Calgary really showed up. I’m so proud. We. Can. Do. Anything. Together.
Mike Shields wrote and produced the song “Right Here”, which is featured in the Tourism Calgary video. Jocelyn laid down some killer vocals and we were invited to be in the video.
We both love Calgary. We feel proud of this city. We are grateful to live here. And although one never truly knows what the future holds, we are glad to be here – Right Here. Right Now.
We are home. Six days, two fresh songs, and one large recording later, Lisa and I are beyond blessed to come home to another equally as exciting week here in our hometown. This Saturday we are LIVE at what I can say is the most exciting show I’ve been a part of. I saw this show for the first time three years ago and I was changed as a songwriter and performer. I am so proud to be a part of what jocelyn & lisa have become and each and everyone of you is a part of that story for us. When we were Weary you were Warrior and when we needed you, you came.
So thank you Avenue Magazine for the shoot, thank you Calgary Herald and Mike Bell for featuring us in your paper yesterday, thank you Trans Canada Alberta Music Series for starting something so intimate and unique and thank you for being there now or anywhere along the way.
